> Parkrose Neighborhood Association ‘in-person’ meeting – From 7:00 until 6:30 p.m. this evening, the PNA will be meeting in person. This month: PBOT Presentation and Q&A: Greenway plans for NE 115th Ave and NE Skidmore St.; Discussion with Neighbors for Clean Air re: Kmart/ProLogis site; and East Portland Land Use and Transportation Committee update. > Lents Grown Business Mixer – Further south, and from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., you’ll find business people interested in improving the Lents Neighborhood Business District gathering. > Slough Science: Birds of the Slough – From 5:30 until 7:30 p.m., the Columbia Slough Watershed Council presents speaker Cass Talbott. This educator and trip leader for Portland Audubon has searched for birds across five continents, but is happiest looking for feathered friends in his hometown of Portland. > Centennial NET monthly meeting – From 6:00 until 7:30 p.m., come meet with the volunteers who make up the Centennial Neighborhood Emergency Team. They are people interested in household preparedness and community resilience, to attend this get-together. This months topic: “Cache inventory and planning”. > PDX Saints Love ‘Restoration of Love’ fundraising gala – From 5:30 until 7:30 p.m., join them to hear stories of restoration, in the lives of people that came from houselessness, addiction, and trauma, through compassionate relationships. Ticket includes full dinner and wine or cider; and a live auction with “amazing gifts to share”, organizers say. Individual tickets are $100 each; tables available. > Gateway Green Tree Planting – From 9:45 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Friends of Trees is organizing this tree planting party to plant hundreds of native trees and shrubs at Gateway Green. Gloves, tools, and breakfast snacks/coffee provided and no experience necessary. NOTE: This is a 15 minute walk from the Gateway Transit Center down the multi-use path. Volunteers are encouraged to bike or take public transportation to the Transit Center and walk from there following the signs. > Montavilla Farmers Winter Market – Their “Winter Stock-up Market” is open from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Come shop for seasonal root and fresh vegetables and fruits, baked goods, sustainably raised meats and eggs, flowers, plant starts, and specialty foods. > Sunnyside Symphony Orchestra in concert – Starting at 4:00 p.m., guest conductor for the winter concert, Mark Perlman will provide the downbeat for this musical event. We’re still awaiting their musical program for the afternoon. It’s taking place at the Sunnyside Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located at 10501 SE Market Street, 97216. > Small Business Resource Fair – From 3:00 until 6:00 p.m., this fair promises food, networking, advising, resources and raffles. It’s put on by Prosper Portland, Energy Trust of Oregon, Vibrant Future, Bureau of Development Services, Rational Unicorn Legal Services, 311, Livelihood NW Bookkeeping, and Small Business Legal Clinic. It’s to be held at the APANO officers at 8188 SE Division Street, 97206.
> Lents Neighborhood Association General Meeting – it starts at 6:30 p.m. They will be voting on an interim secretary and recruiting members for vacant board seats. Another major topic is to include proposed revision of the LNA Bylaws. We’ll update this listing should additional topics be added. NOTE CHANGE IN LOCATION: They’re now meeting in the Woody Guthrie Room, 5800 SE 91st Avenue.

> Garden Plants & History Tour – From 10:30 until 11:30 a.m., Leach Botanical Garden Head Gardener, Scott Hoelscher, will take you on a tour of the Garden and share details about our plants and history. You will visit the Stone Cabin on the south side of Johnson Creek. He’ll be happy to field your gardening questions, as well. They walk rain or shine. > Parkrose Bronco Boosters Beverage Bottle & Can Drive – From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., take your deposit-return cans and bottles with you to help support their community educational efforts. A different school organization volunteers for duty during the event each month. They’re back at the Parkrose Middle School front entrance, at 11800 NE Shaver Street, 97220. > Fix-It Fair returns to Parkrose – Live! from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., There will be a full exhibit hall and workshops all day where you can learn directly from experts and knowledgeable community members. You’ll find information and hands-on resources for: Utility bills and home comfort; Financial wellness; Personal health; Community safety and involvement; Getting around; and Repair, borrow, share & Reduce, reuse, recycle. Wait! There’s more! There will be a Repair Café at this event, from 10 am – 2 pm, where you can have your small appliance or cloth item repaired by volunteers. CLICK HERE for more information. > ‘What’s New’ Leach Garden Tour – From 10:30 until 11:30 a.m., take a casual stroll through the Garden with Adam Hart, Leach Garden Horticulture Manager. He will show you what’s new in the Garden, what’s in bloom, new additions, upcoming projects and more – with lots of time for answering questions. It’s a walk, rain or shine; dress for the weather and wear shoes appropriate for gravel trails, slopes and stairs. FEE: $5.00/person; includes Garden admission. > ‘Urgent Need’ Detrash Portland along the I-205 Multi-Use Path – From 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., join with other volunteers from “Dinner and a Movie PDX” and SOLVE to remove trash from this area. “We will be working with and for unhoused neighbors to eliminate what they qualify is trash-worthy’ this is NOT A ‘SWEEP’,” organizers say. Urgent Need clean-ups are not family friendly or suitable for anyone under the age of 18 due to an increased presence of hazardous materials. Safety guidelines will be explained to volunteers before the cleanup begins. Advance sign-up is required! Do so at the SOLVE website: CLICK HERE. > ‘Midsummer/Jersey’ on stage at David Douglas High – The curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. for Ken Ludwig’s ‘Midsummer/Jersey’ – a modern mash-up retelling of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and MTV’s Jersey Shore. The story revolves around the impending marriage of New Jersey’s Governor, the love affairs of four beach-bound high school kids, an energetic bunch of fairies; and, the stylists of a beauty salon. It’s a mixture of love potions, mischief making, weddings, the acting careers of six beauticians – played out with pop music. The show also plays the evenings of March 11, and 17 – and features Matinee performances at 2:30 p.m. on March 12 and 19. TICKETS: $12 Adults | $8 Students. > Leach Garden ADA Accessible Tour – From 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., the Garden’s Former Education Manager will take you on a “Wild & Wondrous” ADA accessible tour. You’ll look at and discuss the signs and impacts of the Missoula Floods, the communication skills of the Wood Wide Web, the calming impacts of fractals found in nature, the Garden’s history and more. You’ll use the concrete pathways that circle and pass through the pollinator garden and take the tree walk to experience the woodland slope and see the Manor House from above. Please dress for unpredictable spring weather. Make sure to check your email before coming to the Garden, since they’ll need to cancel for high winds, ice and snow.
